IRISH hotel brand Clayton has opened its first site in Scotland inside Glasgow’s Custom House.
The category-A listed building on the banks of the River Clyde was built in 1840 and was later used as the procurator fiscal’s office.
The old custom house has been turned into the hotel’s reception, ballroom, and events spaces, while its 303 bedrooms are located in a 16-storey tower, along with its Custom
House Bar & Restaurant.
The two are connected, in part, by a glass roof.
Hazel Galloway, general manager at Clayton Hotel Glasgow City, said: “On arrival, guests will be struck by the grandeur of the building with its historic architecture and striking interiors before moving through to the contemporary heart of the hotel.
“This is a building [that] seamlessly combines classic design with modern luxuries.”
Clayton Hotels was founded in 2015 and now has 24 hotels in the UK and Ireland, including branches in Belfast, Cambridge, and Manchester.
Its Glasgow branch is being operated by fellow Irish company Dalata Hotel Group, which was launched in 2007 and joined the London stock market in 2014.
