Drink in all Six Nations at the Ivy

Have you ever wondered what Scotland, France and England taste like?

Well last night, my colleague Rosie and I trotted along to a launch event to celebrate a special collaboration between The Ivy on The Square and The Garden Shed Drinks Company  where we got to find out. As the first matches of the six nations tournament kick off tomorrow, thirsty fans visiting the Ivy will be able to enjoy six cocktails representing each of the countries competing for the Championship trophy.

Taking inspiration from each of the countries national flowers – there’s the Scottish Thistle, English Rose, French Iris, Welsh Daffodil, Italian Lily and the Irish Clover. Last night’s event saw us sample the Scottish, English and French cocktails and without a smidgen of bias (okay maybe a little) we can confirm that the Scottish offering was our top pick of the three, reminding us somewhat of a whisky sour.

The English Rose

The English RoseAfter purchasing a tiny still from Amazon and whipping up their very own gin in a garden shed (funnily enough), rugby pros Ryan Grant and Ruaridh Jackson and The Garden Shed Drinks Company have come on leaps and bounds. Their wives Kirstin Jackson and Maxine Grant came onboard and the awesome foursome are now looking at exciting times ahead for a gin company with a relatively humble beginning.

The French Iris

The French IrisBig on giving back to the environment, Maxine also told us that some of the profits go to conservation charities such as Trees4Scotland and The Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

We’re already looking forward to returning to try the other three cocktails but we have a feeling that the Scottish Thistle will be hard to beat, a sentiment we can only hope is reflected in our national side’s six nations performance.

The six nations cocktails are available to try at The Ivy On The Square from 1 February right through to 16 March when the tournament finishes.
