Edinburgh-based distillery, The Old Curiosity, is spoiling mums this Mother’s Day, by adding a ‘sprinkle of love’ to one of its most popular colour-changing gins.
For those looking to gift gin to mum on Mother’s Day, until the end of March, every 50cl bottle of the distiller’s Apothecary Rose gin will come with a free bag of hand-picked, pink rose petals to add a perfect garnish to Mum’s celebration.
The beautiful Apothecary Rose gin is more than just a gin, as it boasts particularly stunning colour-changing properties, changing from pale gold to a vibrant pink when tonic is added.
What’s more, the distillery is offering a free miniature bottle of the Apothecary Rose gin for anyone booked on to one of its newly launched Gin Garden Tours over the Mother’s Day weekend (30 and 31 March).
The unique tours take place at the Secret Herb Garden – the UK’s first and only pure working gin botanical garden – at the foot of the Pentland Hills, making an ideal activity for Mother’s Day. Visitors are shown the full gin making process, from hand-picking and drying the flowers to the distillation process.
The experience concludes with a tasting of the Secret Garden Range and learning about the curious and delicious gins and their fascinating colour-changing qualities.
The Old Curiosity Distillery is the most recent project from Hamish Martin, a Scottish herbologist and owner of the Secret Herb Garden. All of the herbs and botanicals within the gin are grown, hand-picked, dried and infused by the team at the Secret Herb Garden. They are all 100% natural; free of chemicals, sugars and flavour compounds.
Hamish said: ‘Our beautiful Apothecary Rose gin is the ideal way to spoil a gin-loving mum. It turns an incredible shade of pink, and looks just perfect when served with a scattering of lovingly grown rose petals from our garden.
‘And, if mum loves gin, spend the day on a gin tour rather than the conventional Mother’s Day lunch. Our tours are totally unique, as nowhere else in the world has a gin garden and distillery on site as we do here. What better way to spend the day, than with a walk around the garden; seeing the magic of nature in action to create these special gins – and tasting them too!’
The Apothecary Rose gin is available from The Old Curiosity website www.theoldcuriosity.co.uk as well as specialist off-licences, retailers and outlets in Scotland and from Harvey Nichols nationwide until 31 March 2019. Tours can be booked via the website.
The Old Curiosity Distillery can be found at the Secret Herb Garden on the Old Pentland Road, Edinburgh.
