Scotland has been in the spotlight on screens large and small recently, with popular shows including Outlander, Outlaw King and Victoria airing with the nation’s historical properties entwined in the story.
Three of these iconic residences – Blair Castle, Glamis Castle and Scone Palace – have teamed up to offer visitors a Treasure Ticket for summer 2019.
They are offering visitors a discounted ticket to enjoy all three attractions during the season. With each historic property within an hour’s drive of one another, this offers a fantastic opportunity to explore rural Scotland and see some of the most influential places to have shaped the country’s history.
Each attraction has a completely unique offering. Blair Castle is one of the last working castles in Scotland and was featured in season two of ITV’s hit drama series Victoria, based on the true royal ties with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who fell in love with Blair Atholl and became regular visitors.
It also recently appeared in James Martin’s Great British Adventure on BBC when he was caught on camera cooking venison with beetroot and blackberries in the walled garden with fellow chef, Tom Kitchin.
Poised above the River Tay in Perthshire, Scone Palace is the real life spot that Robert the Bruce was crowned. Shrouded in myth and legend, the palace dates back to the 12th century and is where 42 Scottish monarchs were crowned. It has featured in a number of national TV productions including BBC Antiques Road Show, The Great British Bake Off and Mary Berry’s Country House Secrets.
With over one thousand years of history, Glamis Castle is the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and her daughter, Princess Margaret, was later born at the castle. Originally built in the 13th century, Glamis is the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne and was the inspiration for Shakespeare’s MacBeth.
Julia Sims, head of sales and marketing at Blair Castle and Gardens said: ‘Whether you’re a history buff, simply want to find out more about our nation’s past, or perhaps follow the backdrops to the recent TV action, the Treasure Ticket provides a great opportunity to visit three of the most influential properties in Scottish history.
‘The colourful heritage of each historic home has something new and enchanting to bring to the table. We are extremely lucky to be surrounded by such beauty and have access to such a rich tapestry of history and hope this new offering will encourage many more tourists to visit.’
Margo Baird, marketing manager at Scone Palace and Gardens said: ‘The Treasure Ticket provides access to three of the finest, privately owned Scottish houses. Each of these stunning properties also enjoys wonderful gardens where visitors can take in the fresh country air and enjoy nature at its best. The ticket offers excellent value for money for overseas tourists and staycationers alike.’
Tickets start at £21 for children and £35 for adults with family packages also available. The Treasure Tickets can be purchased on arrival at any of the three venues.
