Search for Scotland’s home of the year goes west

Three houses in the west of the country go under the spotlight in the ongoing search for Scotland’s Home Of The Year.

Judges Michael Angus, Anna Campbell-Jones and Kate Spiers first visit a stunning renovated Edwardian family home in the suburb of Giffnock, East Renfrewshire. The homeowners spent three years painstakingly restoring period features and updating the kitchen and bathrooms.

High above the Sound of Mull in Argyll, the judges find a beautiful self-build with lots of curved lines and a vast mix of materials at its heart with some stand-out unusual features including some quirky ‘mousehole’ arches under the stairs.

Finally, there’s a very urban property to consider, overlooking Glasgow Green. This first-floor flat has some surprising features including sliding walls, hidden rooms and, as one judge discovers, a generous bath.

Each home is scored for its appeal and clever design but only one will be good enough to reach the final.

This is the third of eight episodes in the hunt for Scotland’s Home Of The Year, and will be screened on Wednesday 24 April, on the BBC Scotland channel from 8-8.30pm.
