Desperate Dan has stunned the nation, ditching his signature cow pie for some scrumptious pastry morsels.
Sauntering down Cardwell Garden Centre, near Gourock, Scotland’s favourite cartoon cowboy was first in line to critique a newly available selection of mouth-watering pies, currently on sale in the food section.
Jarvis Pickle Pies’ award-winning delights earned Dan’s emphatic approval, as he scoffed and sampled a vast slew of pies, with each pie’s pastry compactly encasing a plethora of different fillings from all over the globe. The choices stretched from Moroccan lamb to beef and ale to chicken and ham, among numerous alternatives.
Of course, what would a Scottish pie shop be without a haggis option? MacSween haggis pies as well as venison, and port and redcurrant all made appearances and naturally achieved the thumbs up from the big man himself.
Dan also had the opportunity to try the vegetarian and vegan options; spinach, goat’s cheese and sweet potato as well as cauliflower curry pies.
Hailing from the Scottish Borders, Jarvis Pickle Pies has clinched an astonishing 14 British Pie Awards over the last two years. Such remarkable success has drawn considerable interest from across the UK with their products being sold nationwide, in the likes of the prestigious Fortnum & Mason, of Picadilly.
Described as the world’s strongest man, the beloved Dandy comic character from the Wild West is said to be capable of lifting a cow with a single hand. He is also rumoured to sleep on a reinforced bed, with his head resting on pillow crammed full of stones and rubble; his beard is even so strong that he is forced
to use a blowtorch to shave!
Dan was thrilled when the news broke of the updated array of edible goodies and said: ‘When I heard about these new pies at the Cardwell I just had to head on down to try them for myself.
‘They’re really tasty, jam-packed with fillings and they certainly keep my hunger at bay while I sort out the bad guys in Cactusville, Texas.’
Cardwell’s retail general manager Paul Carmichael added: ‘Our new range of Jarvis Pickle Pies is very popular with our customers and they’ve been snapping them up quicker than Desperate Dan can dispatch a baddie to the jailhouse.
‘The variety of fillings is attracting the customers to the shelves and there is so much meat and veg in the pie, they’re almost like a meal in itself.’
