Want to kick your weekend off in style? Forgo the pub and head to the newest supper club in town.
Celebrity chef Tony Singh is throwing open the doors of his Edinburgh home to cook up a storm for his guests at his Friday night supper clubs.
The supper club trend has been on the rise for the last few years and I was lucky enough to get an invite to the hottest one in town which promises a unique foodie experience featuring the best of Tony’s fusion of Scottish and Asian flavours.
The night began by getting to know the other guests over the creation of a communal playlist of music for the evening. Dinners are friendly and open to everyone, so whether you want to book all 10 seats at the table for a corporate event, go with a group of friends, attend as a couple or even go yourself, it’s sure to be a great night.
Canapes of haggis pakora and cheese shortbread kicked off the evening, enjoyed over a glass of champagne and whisky cocktails served in Tony’s stunning living room.
We moved through to the kitchen where we took a seat at the table whilst Tony and his sous chef put the final touches to our first course of oyster and lamb vurha. This course was quickly followed by tasty serrano ham served with olives.
A highlight of the meal was the lobster bisque which was served with a cheese toastie – it shouldn’t have worked but it did; the man knows what he’s doing!
Warmed Crottin de Chavignol with honey and nuts was followed by a course of scallop and peas with lardo and sherry vinegar. The next course of prawns with arjwan seeds was great, full of flavour and spices without any overpowering heat. Perfectly cooked venison with Malabar peppercorn sauce finished off the main course dishes.
Pistachio parfait with warm jalebi was the first of the night’s puddings. Creamy and tasty with a nice crunch of pistachio, it was perfection on a plate. Delicious gorgonzola was then served alongside poached pear before we rounded off the night with an expresso served with a wonderful salted caramel and speculoos teacake.
Each course was served with a carefully paired wine and the overall experience was fantastic. Having the food prepared in front of us was great and despite working hard in the kitchen, Tony found time to entertain us all with stories of his career, kept us laughing with his wicked sense of humour and made us feel very welcome in his home.
A superb host, outstanding food, great company and a little too much wine makes this a must attend event. It’s already proving to be the hottest ticket in town so book your place now!
A place at the table costs £150 and the evening starts at 7pm.
