A celebration of American roots music in Scotland

Songwriters and musicians from across the globe will gather in Glasgow for a unique one-off concert.

On Monday, 30 July, they will be highlighting the universal and international appeal of American roots music, often referred to as Americana at the Cottiers Theatre in Glasgow.

The youthful all-female line-up features some of the most exciting talent emerging from the burgeoning Americana scene including Meaghan Blanchard from Prince Edward Island on Canada’s eastern seaboard; Lucas & King from Southampton; Amythyst Kiah from Johnson City, Tennessee; and Edinburgh native Roseanne Reid.

They will play ‘in the round’ in true Nashville style where all the artists remain onstage throughout the show and take turns in playing songs.

Between them, they embrace many diverse styles from the country-flavoured Americana of Meaghan Blanchard and the classic pop, country and blues echoes in Lucas & King’s songs to Amythyst Kiah’s deep blues, old-time covers and superb contemporary songs alongside Rosanne Reid’s classic singer-songwriter material.

Event promoter Bayile Adeoti said: ‘We are thrilled to be able to bring these talented women to Glasgow for what will be a very special evening.

‘The Americana music scene in the UK gathers strength each year, with a loyal following in Scotland in particular: three of the artists will be coming to us direct from Perth’s prestigious Southern Fried Festival.

‘Cottiers is the perfect venue for the first United States of Americana concert, we hope to grow the event year on year and bring many more talented artists to the venue, which provides the ideal setting for intimate acoustic concerts like this.’

Cottiers’ beautiful stained glass windows and ornate timberwork will make the perfect backdrop for the gig, which will welcome around 200 guests. Named after Daniel Cottier a revolutionary Glasgow artist-designer who decorated the building when it was built in 1865, it is one of only three surviving Scottish churches famously decorated by him.

Tickets, priced adults (16+) £18 and concessions £15, are available from Cottiers Theatre Box Office on 0141 357 4000 or from Ticket Scotland HERE.
