An introduction to the Scottish Field Gin Challenge
Today the gin industry is flourishing, with 70 per cent of the UK’s gin produced in Scotland alone. At Scottish Field we believe that this is worth celebrating, and have introduced the Scottish Field Gin Challenge in 2017 in order to highlight the best bottles around.
Much like our well-established Scottish Field Whisky Challenge, entries into the Scottish Field Gin Challenge are blind-tasted and scored by our panel of expert judges to find the Scottish Field Gin of the Year. Awards will also be given to the Gold, Silver and Bronze bottle in each category.
Our panel of judges are: Robin Russell of Robbie’s Drams; Matthew MacFadyen of the Good Spirits Co; Ian Pert of The Jolly Botanist; Douglas Wood of Woodwinters; and Gin Club Scotland’s Chrissie Fairclough.
Gins are split into four categories:
- Under £35
- Over £35
- Liqueurs*
- Distilled outwith Scotland*
*Liqueurs and distilled outwith Scotland will only have one overall winner, while Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in the price categories.
Once scored, the results will be published online and in the August issue of Scottish Field – in stores the first week of July. Watch this space!
