Highland Games and modern life are to be celebrated at a new exhibition.
Aberdeenshire Council is supporting Lifting, by Stéphanie Vandem, an exhibition linking the heavy events of the Highland Games with struggle and resilience in modern society.
Based on Aboyne, Stephanie has created a series of large scale oil paintings that visually represent the heavy weight lifting events.
Individually her paintings are intimate portraits of athletes digging deep to deliver an optimum performance, and collectively they create a powerful presence of inner strength that resonates with us all.
Lifting isn’t all about burden it’s also about resilience and endurance.
Lifting is supported by Aberdeenshire Council Culture & Sport and Infrastructure Services. It reflects the 2018-2028 Cultural Strategy – Our Sense of Place, and is a pilot exhibition that will inform future programming of visual arts opportunities for local creatives in Council Venues.
It will be on show on the ground floor of the council’s Woodhill House, from Thursday, 6 September until Tuesday, 2 October.
