The BBC’s Antiques Roadshow returns to Scotland for an edition which will be shown on Mother’s Day.
After the taste of glorious Crathes Castle summer sunshine that reached our screens in January, the BBC team are back for a second outing National Trust for Scotland property.
The second of two programmes filmed at Crathes last July airs on BBC One at 7pm on Sunday, 31 March.
In the first programme, presenter Fiona Bruce, who boasts a fine Aberdeenshire family heritage, enjoyed a tour of the castle’s magnificent garden and inspected a kaleidoscopic variety of objects brought by the public, ranging from ornate silver from Iona (another Trust property) to a German art deco figurine to a unique Brooklyn Dodgers baseball.
The second programme is full of no less surprising objects, including a stunning Cartier clock, a tiny bowl with a giant price tag and a royal portrait that is not all that it seems.
And there are connections to showbiz royalty too – a hat once given to Ronald Reagan and a walking stick belonging to Scottish music hall star Sir Harry Lauder.
The National Trust for Scotland’s operations manager, James Henderson said: ‘With the sun shining on a glowing Castle, the BBC’s summer trip to Crathes was a wonderful experience.
‘In the last programme Fiona Bruce was escorted through our gardens and in this episode, I believe she’ll spend a little time inside the castle to learn about its long history and to look at its fine art and furniture collections.
‘The response to the January broadcast was overwhelming and I’m sure this Sunday’s programme will prove just as inspiring.
‘With spring now upon us, this is just the time to come and visit Crathes Castle in person and see for yourself why it proved to be the perfect venue for the Antiques Roadshow and impressed so many of the people who came along to take part in the filming.’
