The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival has got off to a world-class start, breaking its own records.
A surge in demand for tickets for the annual Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival generated sales of £209,449 in the first 24 hours of release. With 173 events completely selling out in one day, ticket sales hit an all-time high. This beat last year’s total by more than £55,000, making it another successful launch for the festival.
Whisky lovers and spirit enthusiasts from as far as the US, the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden snapped up the opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes access to distilleries that are not usually open to the public. Dining events, VIP experiences and connoisseur tours have also proved very popular. In the first hour, there was a selling frenzy with 95 events selling out – during that period alone, £170,492 was spent. A number of tickets were also sold across the UK, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Japan, Spain, Austria, Switzerland and beyond.
Festival chairman James Campbell said the early demand for tickets was a great endorsement of the 20th anniversary event:
‘The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival remains a massively popular event with visitors from around the world and we are delighted that so many people are eager to get their tickets as quickly as they can.’
But fear not, organisers are stressing that with over 600 events making up this year’s programme, there are still plenty of whisky experiences and adventures to enjoy. From exclusive tours and tastings to heritage walks, whisky pairings and community-led events with music and food, the festival is sure to offer something for every whisky fanatic, whatever their level of interest or knowledge in Scotland’s national drink.
