The spirit of George this Christmas

Coinciding with the launch and multimillion pound refurbishment of InterContinental Edinburgh – The George, a new signature gin brand – Number Nineteen – has been created in collaboration with the independent Scottish distillery, The OroGin Distilling.

The new Number Nineteen gin, available from the bar at the Printing Press Bar & Kitchen, in the mini bar for hotel guests, and for exclusive purchase as a bottle from the hotel, is the second gin to be launched by the property – following No. 25 in 2017.

Number Nineteen features an exclusive recipe that has been designed and distilled with gin experts from both the hotel and the distillery. This includes a blend of 15 botanicals from around the globe presented as a Scottish Dry Gin with a fresh bright note.

Macedonian Juniper, Italian and Moroccan Coriander sit alongside Cassia from the Far East, Cinnamon from Sri Lanka, Citrus from Spain and a rare green cardamom from Guatemala. Fresh notes come from Lemon Verbena, Thai Lemon Grass and Kaffir Lime Leaves.

On the palate, this beautiful botanical combination initially delivers robust notes of juniper followed swiftly by bright and zesty citrus tones. Nineteen finishes with a smooth dry note, characteristic of a London Dry gin. It really is one for the classic gin lovers.

And, with Christmas fast approaching, the hotel and distillery have created a selection of signature cocktail serves, featuring both No. 25 and Number Nineteen, to compliment the Printing Press Bar & Kitchen’s Christmas menu for this festive season.

The Confit Gressingham duck leg and pistachio terrine can be enjoyed along side No.25 with a dash of crème di mure and tonic, while Number Nineteen’s signature serve with Mediterranean tonic and a slice of fresh orange compliments the braised daube of beef, butter poached hake fillet or wild mushroom gnocchi perfectly.

Ray Clynick, managing director and head distiller for The Oro Distilling Co. said: ‘We’re really excited to launch the new Number Nineteen gin brand, the bottle looks fantastic with the design mirroring the elegance, quiet opulence and timelessness of The George. With our exclusive blend of botanicals, we recommend a Mediterranean tonic serve with a garnish with orange twist to bring out the notes and flavours.’

The label for the new Nineteen gin brand has gravitas having been carefully designed to reflect the property’s Georgian heritage and brand values with an original map of Edinburgh’s George Street and label border that’s reminiscent of a Georgian door number. Subtle dots within the design act as a

Number Nineteen (25ml) costs £5.50 and £49 for a bottle.
