Perthshire Rugby and Glenalmond College are teaming up in a new partnership.
The move was announced to players and coaches during a visit to the leading Perthshire school at the weekend.
Glenalmond College is now Perthshire Minis’ Official Partner, cementing the existing strong relationship and long-held rugby connections between the club and the school.
The partnership will mean that Glenalmond College will feature on the front of Perthshire Minis’ match strips and will work closely with the Club to support its thriving Minis section.
The support from the Perthshire school is a major boost for Perthshire Minis and opens the door to a range of exciting potential opportunities for the future.
Minis section head, Carol Ann Rose, said: ‘The exciting news was announced to our children at our Minis Christmas party, kindly hosted by Glenalmond College.
‘It was a superb day. Our girls and boys had the opportunity to explore the grounds and outdoors, toast marshmallows in the school’s excellent outdoor classroom followed by a delicious lunch in the fabulous Hogwarts-style dining hall.
‘Sincere thanks to Glenalmond pupils and staff for being so welcoming and hospitable. Our children and parents really enjoyed their day, and news of our partnership with Glenalmond, and the future opportunities to collaborate it will bring, was the icing on the cake.’
Perthshire Rugby, recently voted Club of the Year at the Perth & Kinross Sports Awards, credits the dedication of their coaches, volunteers and players to the club’s continued momentum.
Mrs Rose added: ‘We’re an ambitious and hard-working club. The dedication of our coaches and volunteers shines through in the standard of our rugby product and the fun enjoyed by girls and boys aged four to 11.
‘We are thrilled to have this opportunity and receive shirt sponsorship support from Glenalmond. There’s a great rapport and many synergies between the club and the school and we look forward to collaborating and developing a partnership that will benefit all the girls and boys in our mini section.’
Glenalmond College has a rich heritage in rugby with former Scotland captains David Leslie, Rob Wainwright and 1990 Grand Slam Captain David Sole all former pupils (Old Glenalmonds).
The school’s first XV team also reached the Scottish School’s Cup Final two seasons ago and Glenalmond is the official school partner of London Scottish, the club which has fielded more Scotland international players than any other since they were founded in 1878.
Graham Smith, director of sport and head of rugby at Glenalmond, said the school was delighted to announce the partnership during Sunday’s visit to Glenalmond by around 230 minis players and their families.
He added: ‘It was fantastic to receive such positive feedback from the players, parents and coaches when the partnership was announced on Sunday and we are very much looking forward to working closely with the club in the years ahead.
‘As well as building on our long-established links with the sport of rugby, Glenalmond College and Perthshire Rugby Club minis also share a great many values – such as the drive for constant improvement, fair play and fun,” he added.’
