Sarah discovered a whole new bag of tricks

In search of the perfect handbag, Sarah Haran decided to design it herself.

I first met Sarah Haran in Jenners where she introduced me to her range of leather handbags.  I instantly loved the timeless designs and was overjoyed to find out the inception of these bags was such a fascinating story.

Sarah’s career didn’t begin in fashion – in fact she started off in IT, but not in the ‘have you tried switching it off and on again?’ department. Sarah was the chief operating officer of a listed cloud computing company, which saw her travel regularly to meetings.

With minimal luggage allowance, Sarah was struggling to find the perfect day-to-night bag she needed for these trips.

Deciding that if nobody else could produce her dream handbag she would do it herself, she undertook training in handbag design and leather work which led to an apprenticeship with a former creative director of Mulberry.

The Dahlia is Sarah’s signature design and this is a bag that is as practical as it is versatile.

Handmade in Britain using Italian leather (like all of Sarah’s bags) it is essentially two bags in one. The main body of the bag houses six pockets, which Sarah believes is the optimum number so that you can keep track of where everything is, but also have a place for everything you need.

The Dahlia includes a front pocket which can be detached and used as a stand-alone bag called The Ivy. The Ivy is available to buy separately so that you can switch it up and add a splash of a different colour to your bag. Along with a range of coloured leather tassels that fi t on the bag, this makes the possibilities for different looks almost endless.

And that’s important, because Sarah’s bags are not designed to be disposable or to go out of style. The designs are classic and her bags carry a lifetime guarantee. With a variety of tassels, pom poms, decorative strips and straps available, you can change your look without the need to change your bag.

And that appeals greatly to anyone who doesn’t have time to swap bags to match every outfit.
