Isle of Harris Distillers have won the Societal Impact Award at the Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards 2019 in Scotland.
The programme recognises successful entrepreneurs making a positive impact on their society and the economy, and the legacies they’re building.
Directors of Isle of Harris Distillers, Anderson Bakewell, Ron MacEachran and Simon Erlanger are all winners of the award to reflect the team approach of the company.
The Isle of Harris distillery was the brainchild of Bakewell, connected to the island for over 50 years and anxious to address issues surrounding the fragile local economy and declining population.
During the 1950s there were over 4,000 people living in the community, today there are less than half with the numbers continuing to decrease.
A growing team of over 30 full time staff now create beautiful spirits and welcome visitors from all over the world. Everything is made by local distillers, trained from scratch in their craft.
The Social Distillery is both a place and an idea for bringing people together, to share the special spirit of Harris and create a sense of belonging wherever they are from.
The award-winning Isle of Harris Gin is £37, available from www.harrisdistillery.com/isleofharrisgin.
