A Skye business which runs seafood cruises has netted a five star award.
Seaflower Seafood Cruises in Portree has been awarded 5 Star Visitor Attraction status by national tourism organisation VisitScotland in only its second year of operation.
The award, which is the result of an unannounced inspection, is given for tours which provide ‘an exceptional customer experience.’ It follows reviews of all points of interaction with visitors, efficiency, hospitality and friendliness, booking systems, catering, and cleanliness including toilets.
Seaflower, run by Ewen Grant and Janice Cooney, operates cruises between Skye and the neighbouring islands of Rona and Raasay. The seafood served on board is freshly caught locally by Ewen’s father and older brother.
The cruises also provide an opportunity to spot a variety of sealife and birdlife including dolphins, porpoises, seals, basking sharks and sea eagles, and even orcas (killer whales).
The VisitScotland inspector wrote: ‘Locally sourced seafood is a real feature and is of exceptional quality … The wildlife display was a highlight.’
Ewen added: ‘Achieving 5 star accreditation is another big step forward in Seaflower’s development and represents official recognition of the top quality we aim for in everything we do. It is particularly significant because VisitScotland has designated 2020 as its Year of Coasts and Waters.’
