Oh crumbs – it’s a 114lbs gingerbread hotel!

Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel has today unveiled an enormous gingerbread house replica of the hotel in its lobby.

The 3.8ft wide gingerbread doppelgänger was created by Executive Chef, Zoltan Szabo along with five other chefs in the hotel’s kitchen.

An astonishing 114lbs of gingerbread and 35lbs of icing sugar was used to create the ginger mammoth which measures 3.7ft at its highest point and took a whopping 104 hours to complete.

Along with the hotel, a toy train passes under the display passing gingerbread cookie Ben Nevis and signposts for Aberdeen and Carlisle.

Paul Bray, general manager, Grand Central Hotel, said: ‘We love the festivities surrounding Christmas, so what better way to celebrate the Grand Central Hotel’s long-standing history and presence in Glasgow, than to create a giant gingerbread house.’

Guest checking in will be greeted by the giant gingerbread house in the hotel’s lobby and will also be able to spot a gingerbread Santa flying from the clocktower along with his reindeer, Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Vixen, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen.

Those visiting the hotel are encouraged to take a photo of the gingerbread house and tag the hotel via Instagram and include their own hashtag.

The winner of the best photo will receive a voucher for an overnight stay for two in one of the hotel’s newly refurbished bedrooms, as well as a bottle of select wine and a three-course meal in the Tempus restaurant. Competition will run throughout December.
