‘Castle of Light’ trail opens in Edinburgh

EDINBURGH’S “Castle of Light” trail was switched on over the weekend by a couple chosen through a public vote.

Maurice and Julia Maguire, who own Majestic Wedding Cars Edinburgh, were joined by Rex, the castle’s lion rampant mascot, to switch on the castle’s illuminations.

The light trail tells the story of Edinburgh Castle, stretching back for more than 800 years.

The “Castle of Light” trail will be open on selected dates between now and 30 December.

Stephen Duncan, director of engagement at Historic Environment Scotland (HES), the public body that runs Edinburgh Castle, said: “With this year’s ‘Castle of Light’ theme focussed on brightening up the city during the darker winter months with tales from times gone by, it was important that we also showcase those creating stories in the community today.

“As a local business [that] continues to brighten up people’s lives with [its] fantastic work, Majestic Wedding Cars Edinburgh proved to be the perfect candidate.

“Now that we’re officially open to the public, we hope our guests enjoy this year’s event as much as we enjoyed planning it.”
