Pennan wants to hear from its ‘local heroes’

RESIDENTS and visitors are being asked for their views on the future of Pennan, the Aberdeenshire village made famous by the film Local Hero.

Aberdeenshire Council wants to know the public’s opinion on its draft conservation area appraisal and management plan.

The documents will guide property owners and developers on how their planning applications will be assessed, bringing it in line with other conservation areas across Aberdeenshire.

The previous consultation had to be rearranged due to the pandemic.

Paul Macari, head of planning and economy for Aberdeenshire Council, said: “We are very much looking forward to continuing those previous conversations.”

He added that the plan “will become an important tool in the planning and decision-making process for the preservation of Pennan now and in the future”.

The council is holding a drop-in event between 3pm and 7pm on Thursday at Pennan village hall to receive feedback and let the public ask questions.

Released in 1983, Local Hero was made by Bill Forsyth and starred a young Peter Capaldi.
