It has been revealed that Edinburgh people are the most festive in the UK.
A whopping 90% of workers in the city have bought a colleague a Secret Santa gift this year and on top of that have also attended at least one Christmas party.
Research by short term loan provider Wonga has also found that more than one in five (21%) of tradesmen spend between £21 and £25 on a Secret Santa gift.
This in comparison to the national average which sits at £13 seems extremely generous.
The professions that spend the most on Secret Santa gifts on average are plumbers, builders or electricians who an average spend £18 per gifts.
It has also been revealed that Designers/artists and IT professionals sit just below them on the generosity scale, as they spend £16 per gift. It is interesting to note that plumbers, builders and electricians also spend the most overall on seasonal workplace festivities.
Up to 19% are spending £76-£100 on everything including Christmas parties, lunches decorations, gifts and not to forget treats.
Teachers sit at the top of the ‘thriftiest professions’ around the festive periods as 21.1% are spending £5 or less on Secret Santa gifts. Furthermore, around 12.5% of sales professionals and 11.4% of retail professionals spend less than £5 in the gift department.
It has been reported that more women participate in workplace Christmas activities than men however around 48% of women said they feel more pressured to spend money in the workplace during the festive season in comparison to just 35% of men.
James McMaster, Wonga’s head of marketing in the UK, said: ‘Christmas can be an expensive time – it’s easy to forget about work events and that these costs can easily build up, as our research shows.’
