The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open gets underway today and its new official whisky sponsor partner has been revealed.
Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has signed a one year deal with golf event, marking their biggest sponsorship deal to date.
As part of the deal Glengoyne will be the house pour at all course bars, including the Skean Dhu hospitality area.
Taking place until 15 July, the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open returns to the classic championship links at Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian where American star, Rickie Fowler lifted the Quaich trophy in 2015.
Neil Boyd, UK business unit managing director, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have entered into this partnership and have been long-time supporters of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.
‘Glengoyne celebrates the passion and skill that goes into every game and given the synergies between golf and whisky, we couldn’t be a better fit!
‘Spectators and golfers alike, will be able to enjoy our range of our exclusive single malts and discover the bold and complex flavours that our brand has become known for. The perfect dram to toast to a day like no other.’
With Glengoyne added to the fold, championship commercial director, Robert Gordon said: ‘We are absolutely ecstatic to have gained a whisky sponsor like Glengoyne with such a great tradition and product. I am sure spectators coming to the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open next month will be thrilled for the chance to taste some fantastic Scottish Whisky.’
With entertainment, children’s activities and food and drink outlets showcasing local produce, all complementing the world-class golfing action on Scotland’s Golf Coast the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open is a perfect day out for all the family.
This year’s tournament is supporting two official charities: The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Leuchie House. My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was launched by one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities, Doddie Weir, and his trustees following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease to raise funds to aid research into the causes of the disease and investigate potential cures. Leuchie House, a charity local to Gullane Golf Club, is Scotland’s only dedicated respite centre and offers caring respite breaks to people with long term neurological
conditions, including motor neurone disease.
