A series of family friendly walking events are taking place against the exhilarating backdrop of Wester Ross in the Highlands this month.
Hosted by the National Trust for Scotland, the programme of guided treks, which includes an opportunity to spot wild red deer, hear stories from the past and take photos in the beautiful heart of north west Scotland, will run from Friday 12 October until Sunday 21 October at impressive natural heritage locations including Kintail, Torridon and Balmacara.
Walkers and adventurous spirits looking to get outdoors this autumn are invited to join the National Trust of Scotland’s rangers to travel back in time to learn about the historic village of Plockton, discover the dramatic site of the Battle of Glenshiel and marvel at a rainbow of autumn colours sweeping across Lochalsh Woodland Park.
This year, the programme has also grown to include a guided walk around the idyllic Loch Coulin, hosted by the Skye and Wester Ross Fisheries Trust.
Gavin Skipper, estate ranger for the National Trust for Scotland, said: ‘We’re very excited to bring Walktober back for the seventh year running now and from autumn themed arts and crafts, wildlife talks and rich history tours, there’s something for everyone.
‘We’re inviting everyone to join us in exploring the beautiful landscapes of Wester Ross, which has now been recognised as a biosphere reserve – due to our devotion to protecting the area’s unique and diverse plants and wildlife.’
