A new marine training centre and sightseeing tour company has set up along the River Clyde – the first of its kind in Glasgow to be run by qualified Merchant and Royal Navy marine professionals.
Glasgow City Boats, founded by John Mackenzie and Jill McCairns, offers a wide and comprehensive array of training courses, all delivered by highly experienced and qualified marine professionals.
The company, which is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognised training centre, will offer courses in practical boat driving, navigation, sea survival, marine radio, first aid and other bespoke courses including basic seamanship, health and safety, rope work and splicing.
John Mackenzie, co-founder and principal, is a professional Merchant Navy ships navigation officer with over 750,000 miles at sea under his belt.
HE said: ‘I’ve spent over 15 years working in Scottish seas and spotted a gap in the market for a unique marine training academy along the River Clyde, run by dedicated Merchant and Royal Navy professionals.
‘Having worked along the River Clyde for many years myself and my partner, Jill, are excited to bring GCB to the city and are looking forward to welcoming our first students.
‘Our aim is to the provide the training that students and marine professionals are crying out for in the city. We also want to offer a unique way to explore Glasgow for tourists to the city, as well as locals who want to see Glasgow and and its iconic landmarks from a different viewpoint!
