Balmacara Square in the Highlands has been revealed as the most dog-friendly Scottish National Trust property in a new study.
The study took a list of dog-friendly National Trust for Scotland properties across the nation and scored them based on a series of doggy criteria points i.e. off-lead options, dog waste bins and dog drinking water.
With a score of 80/100, Balmacara Square took the lead as top dog in the study, which was carried out by Petlandia.
The Top 10 are:
- Balmacara Square – 80/100
- Castle Fraser – 70/100
- Barry Mill – 60/100
- Mar Lodge Estate National Nature Reserve – 60/100
- Crathes Castle – 50/100
- Drum Castle – 50/100
- Arduaine Garden – 50/100
- Craigievar Castle – 40/100
- Abertarff House – 40/100
- Brodie Castle – 40/100
To methodology used to carry out the study saw properties scored points based on passing a series of dog-friendly criteria points.
Properties were awarded: 10 points for allowing dogs; 20 points for allowing dogs off-lead; 10 points for allowing dogs in gardens; 10 points for allowing dogs in woodland; 10 points for allowing dogs in grounds; 10 points for allowing dogs in restaurants; 10 points for allowing dogs in restaurant courtyards; 10 points if dog bins were provided; 10 points if dog water was provided, giving an out of total of 100.
