Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has triumphed at the Bartenders’ Brand Awards, winning a clutch of accolades including top overall Scotch.
Described by judges as ‘rich and powerful’, having a ‘lovely smell’ and ‘beautiful colour’, the Loch Lomond 12 Year Old claimed a total of four awards; gold medals each for taste and value and a silver medal for its design.
As the Scotch with the highest score it was also named category champion, which is the event’s most coveted prize.
Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky imparts a deep fruity character of peach and pear, layered with a vanilla sweetness, and the distillery’s characteristic hints of peat and smoke.
Matured in three different types of cask – bourbon, refill and re-charred – under the watchful eye of Loch Lomond Whiskies’ master blender Michael Henry, the expertly crafted Loch Lomond whisky delivers a perfectly balanced single malt.
Loch Lomond 12 Year Old was the preferred malt of choice for cocktails developed to mark Loch Lomond Whiskies’ five-year partnership with The R&A which saw the brand become the Official Spirit of The Open in 2018.
One of the most popular serves offered at last year’s sporting event, was ‘Lomond Lemonade’ created by pairing Loch Lomond 12 year old with Angostura bitters and Fevertree Sacillian Lemonade.
Scott Dickson, marketing manager for Loch Lomond Whiskies, said: ‘We are extremely proud of this latest award for our beautifully balanced Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Single Malt. It’s been acclaimed worldwide for its smooth taste and rich mouth feel but being recognised in this way by the UK’s most influential bartenders is an extremely important endorsement.
‘I look forward to working with establishments who are keen to discover and stock our Loch Lomond 12 Year Old following these awards.’
The Bartenders’ Brand Awards – the only UK awards judged solely by bartenders – were established to recognise the top spirits, wines, beers and drinks products available in UK cocktails, hotel and restaurant bars. Now in its second year, the event also aims to provide the on-trade industry with recommendations and reviews that will assist purchasing decisions for establishments.
The judging panel included some of the top names in the industry with the process including a blind tasting in which samples were scored on their aroma, complexity, taste and versatility in cocktails.
Judges then explored value for money based on RRP and alcoholic strength, and design, with the latter category looking not only at creativity but also at functionality. Among the key considerations were bottle size, weight and ease of pouring.
Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to the best-performing products in each of the tasting, value and design assessments before the highest scoring brand in each category is designated category champion.
