Five reasons to love chocolate and whisky

A gorgeous line-up of some of the best whiskies is a sight for sore eyes.

The craftsmanship that is put into creating such masterpiece bottles that deliver so many flavours converged brilliantly is an art of its own. And this is probably just one reason why we love our whisky.

But the same goes for chocolates. There are so many varieties to choose from that offer a dash of the best flavors. And now imagine bringing these two amazing creations together.

A dose of whisky, pre- or post-chocolate, can be an adventurous match of flavors that would make up a bold and bewitching combination, to begin with.

Here are five reasons why chocolate and whisky simply gets you to fall in love with them with such ease. And why it is just too hard to escape this paradise.

1. Because it leaves an everlasting flavour behind: If you love nutty chocolate varieties that offer a large variety of flavours in one bite then pairing them with the right whisky can be a war of flavours. Nutty chocolates offer a little crunchy and exciting pairing with whisky. To match well with all of this you might be looking at something like a bottle of classy Glenfiddich, Balvenie Rum Cask 17-year-old or Glenlivet Nadurra. Nuts such as toasted almonds, pistachios, raisins etc, leave a little flavor even after you have exhausted the chocolate from your mouth and this can be complemented well with softly textured varieties such as George Dickel Superior or Weller bourbon.

2. Because they combine to create a unique flavour: The malted milk biscuits flavour is a particularly unique and lovely taste to enjoy and you can have a glimpse of the same when you combine caramel-flavored chocolates with whisky. Burned, smokey and sugary chocolates, especially cream-filled, are the hardest of the chocolates to pair and a heavier choice of whisky is what you would be looking at then. Maritime whisky is the best choice in this case as they make a fierce blend of outstanding flavors. A glass of Caol Ila 12 year, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Bowmore, Talisker Storm or even Springbank combine to create elegant flavors with these chocolates.

3. Because it can be a fun date night idea: Imagine lining up some of the best varieties of chocolates you love and experimenting around to match them with the right type of whisky. Quite an exciting way to enjoy a date night! Like when you combine varieties such as Johnnie Walker Black label with a dark chocolate choice you watch them create a crisp taste that is soothing and delicious. Similarly, chocolates that have high milk content and white chocolates can be matched with varieties such as Bunnahabhain 12 year Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky or Springbank Campbeltown to complement the oily texture well. You can experiment with such exciting pairing ideas and enjoy some of the best varieties of chocolates and scotch whisky this way. You can try to get the right match for varieties such as Crown Royal Reserve also and these pairings are going to be unique to serve your taste.

4. Because they make a fine match that makes each one better: When we look at fine varieties such as Auchentoshan the soft tones of delicate cask flavor that has slightly embedded into the body of the drink is soothing and distant. Such whiskies require a delicate pairing idea to ensure these tones in the shadow do not get lost while pairing. A pairing choice such as with chilli and lemongrass truffle can be exciting as well as complementary to ensure the best of both is preserved as well as enhanced well just like bsn supplements. Similarly, mint chocolates are also a sensitive flavour match to handle given the cooling after effect and sweetness need to be matched well. A Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay Single malt or Kilchoman Machir Bay Islay Single Malt will both let the mint shine while offering it a great base palette to hold it.

5. Because they are the two best ingredients on the planet: When you get the first sip of a powerful whisky such as a Glenfarclas that is filled with a fruity tone you understand the sweet blend of woody and fruity flavors coming together. And then take of bite of your white chocolate and you know what two amazing ingredients can make when paired together rightly. White chocolates usually are not very sweet and balancing that with the fruity, sweet notes from your drink can be an elegant mixture to cherish. The best part about chocolates and whisky is that there is at least one amazing pairing choice for even the not so common flavors. Like the peppermint chocolates, for example, you see that an aggressive textured whiskey goes well with it like Laphroaig or ginger chocolates matching with a Balvenie Doublewood.

Chocolates and whiskys are both versatile in nature and they can pair well to create a union of flavors which is simply mesmerizing. Also, these pairing can be as simple as matching a Macallan 18 with a rich choice of dark chocolate or a casual glass of Johnnie Walker red label with a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

So the next time that you buy chocolate gifts for your friends, make sure that you pair it with a fine bottle of whisky.
