Scottish Field readers’ knowledge of a prestigious Aberdeenshire house is being sought.
Raemoir House, in Banchory, is magnificent in stature yet so welcoming in atmosphere, and first opened its doors to guests in 1943.
Initially it was a place of sanctuary for Londoners during the final years of the war, becoming known as the Cartridges of the North and the Scottish getaway hotel of choice for field sports enthusiasts and the London theatre set.
In the present day, it is a premier exclusive use venue in Royal Deeside, welcoming all manner of parties, whether private and corporate.
As 2018 is the 75th year of Raemoir’s existence for serving the public, the current owners are eager to find out as much as they can about past years.
Mhairi Morriss who assists Raemoir with their marketing and events, said: ‘Raemoir is such an extraordinary house, it holds a special place in many people’s hearts whether they enjoy coming here as a guest or having worked here.
‘I think of Raemoir as a grand old lady who takes care of whoever walks through her doors, but unfortunately, she is not one for gossip, keeping the secrets of those within to herself.
‘We are endeavouring to find out as much as we can about Raemoir’s history and would like to talk to people who may have memories and stories from years gone by, any memorabilia or photographs would be fantastic.’
Of course, although they can’t possibly be named, royalty, rock stars, actors, celebrities and politicians have all come and gone over the years but Raemoir’s guest book, fondly known as The Big Book, still sits at the main entrance has been attracting comments since 1949. If only the walls could talk!
